The Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa has been added to the list of options available to remote workers around the world. The President authorized the "Ley para atraer trabajadores y prestadores remotos de servicios de carácter internacional" (Law on Attracting Foreign Workers and International Service Providers).


Under the law of Costa Rica, a digital nomad is a Remote Employee or Service Provider: a foreign national who uses computers, telecommunications, or similar facilities to provide remote paid services for the benefit of foreign individuals or entities, whether dependent or not from abroad.


Can I apply for the Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa with my family?

Yes. A family group means a spouse or domestic partner, a child under 25 or a boy and girl of any age with a disability, and the elderly living with them.


What is the procedure to apply for Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa?

Foreigners wishing to opt for a non-resident, resident, worker or remote service provider sub-category visa must submit an application and provide the necessary information to meet the material and formal requirements required by the procedure. This law and related regulatory legal acts. The council will have 15 days to resolve the issue. You can find the government platform for applications here.


Can I work under the Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visa?

You can work remotely for a foreign employer. Persons covered by this law are providers of distance services of an international nature, except as permitted by the migrant's place of residence, and are not liable for jobs or paid services in their domestic territories.

  • Payment of the visa fees (another payment is to be done when receiving the residence card)
  • Bank statements showing more than $3000USD monthly income.
  • Health Insurance policy covering the main applicant and all dependents during their stay in Costa Rica
