What is the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa?

In order to increase the country's appeal as a regional center for living and conducting business for "high-potential" people, Thailand is creating a new visa dubbed the "Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa". Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia and is already home to global enterprises from all over the world. 


Thailand portrays itself as a highly appealing place for professionals who can work from anywhere. This new visa program aims to assist economic growth by luring new foreign residents, technology, and skills that will boost local consumption and investment. Over the next five years, the Thai government wants to draw one million affluent or skilled foreigners to live there.

How can I apply for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa?

  1. To apply for an endorsement of qualifying for an LTR visa and to upload supporting papers, register online.
  2. After receiving the required documentation, candidates will learn the outcome within 20 working days.
  3. Within 60 days on the date the endorsement letter was issued, qualified candidates may proceed with requesting for the granting of an LTR visa at one of the Royal Thai Embassies, Royal Thai Consulate Generals abroad, or Immigration offices in Thailand. If you pick up your LTR visa in Thailand, the processing charge for a 10-year visa with multiple entries is 50,000 Baht per person or $1320 USD approx. The cost of obtaining an LTR visa through an online application, a Royal Thai embassy abroad, or a Royal Thai consulate general may vary based on the local exchange rate.
  4. The Department of Employment at One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit, Chamchuri Square Building, Bangkok, or provincial labor offices are the locations where applicants who are employed in Thailand may pick their digital work permits. The annual processing price for a digital work permit is 3,000 Baht or $80USD.

What are eligibility requirements for the Thailand Visa for Remote Workers (LTR)?

5 Eligibility Requirements

  • A minimum annual personal income of USD 80,000 during the previous two years
  • A Master's degree or higher, ownership of intellectual property, or receipt of Series A funding are requirements for candidates with personal income of less than USD 80,000 per year but no less than USD 40,000 per year in the previous two years.
  • Public firm listed on a stock exchange or a private business with at least three years of operation and three years of combined revenue of at least USD 150 million.
  • Throughout the last ten years, at least five years of experience working in the sectors that are relevant to the present position.
  • Social security benefits that cover medical care in Thailand, health insurance with at least USD 50,000 in coverage, or a down payment of at least USD 100,000.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Thailand Visa for Remote Workers (LTR)?

  • Submit online an application for qualification endorsement for LTR Visa and supporting documents.
  • Copy of valid passport (first page and all pages with Thai visa stamps) *Passport validity is more than 6 months when collecting visa
  • Photograph 3x4 cm
  • Updated CV
  • Evidence of university certificate (Master Degree or above)
  • Evidence of an intellectual property ownership
  • Evidence of obtaining series A funding no less than 1 million USD
  • Health insurance policy covering entire course of stay in Thailand, with coverage for hospitalization treatment of no less than 50,000 USD * Submission of this document can be done separately at a later date before a notification letter is issued
  • Evidence of employment contract or service contract with entity or a letter signed by an authorized person) which include details of employment e.g. position, contract term and income
  • Financial evidence showing an income in current year e.g. bank statement
  • An audited corporate’s annual financial statement or financial report in the last 3 years
  • A letter of verification issued from the country of his or her nationality or residence stating that the applicant has no criminal record may be requested on a case-by-case basis.
  • Annual personal income tax return showing income of no less than 80,000 or 40,000 USD per year in the past 2 years
  • Evidence of previous employment in the related field no less than 5 years in the past 10 years as of the submission date (e.g. copy of letter from previous company)
