To apply for and be granted a permanent resident visa, the applicants must:

  • have certain close family connections in Mexico, or
  • apply for retirement status and prove they have sufficient monthly income (or substantial assets) to support themselves, or
  • have 4 consecutive years of regular status as Temporary Resident, or
  • have 2 consecutive years of regular status as Temporary Resident where that Temporary Visa was issued through marriage to a Mexican National or a foreign permanent resident, or
  • meet a minimum score under the Points System, or
  • be granted residency on humanitarian grounds or through political asylum.

  • You need a valid passport.
  • You need proof of sufficient funds.
  • You must have intention to settle permanently in Mexico.
  • You need to pay consular fee.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Residence Visas?

7 Document Required

  • Visa Application Form.
  • Valid passport in original and one color photocopy of page containing personal information.
  • One photo passport size(size 1.5x1.3/4 inches), color, no glasses, white background.
  • Last 12 months of pay stubs or pension payments; employment letter specifying your position and salary and the last 12 months; international credit card statements from the last 12 months.
  • Or, yearly social security statement and one copy. You can also submit official documents proving the ownership of a property/company/business and one photocopy of them, for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Payment of consular fee (only cash ZAR).
  • The bank statements must be stamped by the banking institution.
