Foreign nationals are legally required to apply for and obtain a long stay D visa followed by a valid work permit (also known as an NEA work permit) in order to work in Bulgaria.

The sponsor company (employer) in Bulgaria will apply for a work permit on behalf of the applicant to the Bulgarian Employment Agency. Once the permit is issued, the company will register the employee with the local Employment Office.

Processing time for this visa varies depending on your nationality and job offer.

You may bring your spouse and kids on this visa.


Application process:

  • Get the employment letter or Work contract from the employer in Bulgaria.
  • Prepare your visa application and gather other required documents for it.
  • Apply for a long stay D visa and prepare to move to Bulgaria.
  • Upon arrival in Bulgaria, within the first three months, secure your Red-White-Red card (Work resident permit).
