About

A working holiday visa is a residence permit allowing you to undertake employment and holiday (and sometimes study) in Canada, without undergoing the usual costly expenses of finding work sponsorship in advance or going on expensive university exchange programmes.

Process

  • Applicants must first create a profile on International Experience Canada (IEC) candidates, which notifies Canadian authorities of their desire to receive a working holiday visa in Canada.
  • If you’re eligible, you’ll be placed into one or more pools of International Experience Canada (IEC) candidates.
  • You’ll get a message in your account that confirms you are in the pool(s).
  • Successful candidates will receive an invitation to formally complete their application for a work permit.

How the IEC pools work?

Normally, your profile will stay in the pool until:

  • you receive an Invitation to Apply for a work permit,
  • all of the profiles are removed from the pool(s) at the end of the season, or
  • you’re no longer eligible for IEC.

Note: You can only have one IEC profile at any time. However, you can be eligible for more than one IEC pool.

How Invitations to Apply are issued?

Invitations to Apply are issued in the following order:

  1. International Internship (Co-op)
  2. Young Professionals
  3. Working Holiday

If your profile is in an International Internship (Co-op) pool and Working Holiday pool, you’ll receive an Invitation to Apply for an International Co-op category. You’ll only receive an Invitation to Apply for a Working Holiday work permit if there are no spots left in the International Co-op (Internship) category.
