Foreign nationals who wish to enter France understudy purposes with the intention to remain there more than three months, up to a year, are separated under a few categories according to their age and studies.

The categories exempted from this visa are:

  • Third-country nationals that hold a short-stay visa – marked as Famille de Français (‘Family of a French national’).
  • EU nationals.
  • EEA nationals (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein).
  • Nationals of the principalities of Monaco and Andorra.
  • Nationals of San Marino and the Holy See.
  • Foreign nationals and their families who have acquired long-term resident status in another EU country.
  • Students who have attended school in France without interruption from the age of 16 and are continuing their studies in the country.

What are eligibility requirements for the Trainee Caregiver Visa (young au pair) ?

4 Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be aged between 17 and 30.
  • You are temporarily going to stay with a family in France in order to study French.
  • You must sign an au pair placement agreement. This agreement must be submitted to the French authorities (DIRECCTE) by your host family.
  • You must be of good health and mind.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Trainee Caregiver Visa (young au pair) ?

6 Document Required

  • Application form dated and signed.
  • ID photograph.
  • If you are not a national of your country of residence, please provide proof of your legal residency in this country (e.g. residence permit, etc.).
  • Travel document, valid for at least three months after the planned date of return.
  • Au pair placement agreement stamped by a competent DIRECCTE and a registration in an educational establishment and documentary evidences of the level of studies and signed by you.
  • Medical certificate dated less than 3 months (the certificate must be translated into French by a sworn translator if the original is in a foreign language).
