A German language course visa is the type educational visa issued for non-EU/non-EEA/non-Swiss citizens intending to complete an intensive language course lasting 3-12 months. The courses the visa applicants are expecting to complete shall contain minimum 18 hours of lessons each week.Recognized certifications are received upon successfully passing one of the following examinations:
If you don’t have a Language Certificate, universities often require you to undergo a course in order to get one of the above mentioned certificates in Germany, which may last up to three months, or even more, in order to be able to get enrolled in your studies in Germany.
Note: A German Language Course Visa’s validity is up to the length of the course that can be three months up to one year and it cannot be extended further while in Germany, you need to apply for a student permit from your home country to continue studies in Germany.
Also, citizens of Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the United States of America, do not need to apply for language visas, in order to enter Germany and attend a language course. However, they must apply for residence permit upon arrival in Berlin directly at the Immigration Office.
