Employees who want to work and reside in Ghana, need to apply for a work permit through their employer followed by a resident permit. The application will be initiated by the employer and they will guide you on the further process.

Note: A resident permit is mandatory to obtain after the work permit, in order to start working in Ghana.

What are eligibility requirements for the Work Resident Permit?

6 Eligibility Requirements

  • You must have a valid passport/travel document.
  • You must have a valid employment contract.
  • You must obtain a work permit through the employer before applying for resident permit.
  • You must obtain a Non-Citizen ID card at the NIA office Accra.
  • You must be of good health and willing to undergo medical test in Ghana.
  • Additonal requirements may be present and will be specified by the employer.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Work Resident Permit?

  • Bio data page of passport of applicant.
  • Application letter on company’s letterhead.
  • Tax Clearance Certificate (for existing companies).
  • Business Registration Documents – certificate of incorporation, certificate of commencement of business, company regulations, form 3&4, (if applicable).
  • Letter of employment / Contract
  • Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Certificate (if registered).
  • Letter of support from Ministry, Department or Agency (if required).
  • Educational and Professional Certificates and resume (CV).
  • Police Clearance Certificate from employee’s country of origin or current residence.
  • Passport & residence permit copy of employer.
  • Medical Report.
  • Non-Citizen ID card.
