Non-EU national willing to start up an innovative business of particular economic interest in Spain can apply for Spain startup visa.


There are two options: -

  • A startup visa, if you are outside of Spain and you need to come to Spain to make the necessary preparatory arrangements to do business here.


  • A residence permit, if you are currently in Spain and can set up the business.


There are neither minimum capital requirements nor a minimum number of jobs to create. The Spanish system is based on a case by case analyses.


How long does the permit last?

• Visa: 1 year

• Residence permit: 2 years

• Renewal of the residence permit: other 2 years.


You can bring your spouse and kids along

The normal processing time for the visa is 4-6 Weeks

What are eligibility requirements for the Spain Start-up Visa?

  • Applicant must have a regular residence in Spain for this visa
  • Applicant must be older than 18 years.
  • Applicant must have no criminal record in Spain or countries lived in during the last 5 years for offenses stipulated under Spanish Law
  • Applicant must not be listed as objectionable in the territorial space of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement in this regard.
  • Applicant must have a public insurance or private health insurance, with a Health Insurance Institution authorised to operate in Spain.
  • Applicant must have sufficient financial resources for himself and for the members of his family during the period of residency in Spain (2.130 Euros monthly for applicant and 532 Euros for every family member that is in applicant's care).
  • Applicant must present a favorable report from the Commercial Office where the visa is requested to confirm the business plan’s intentions.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Spain Start-up Visa?

  • Valid passport copy
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Public health insurance or private health insurance with a Health Insurance Institution authorised to operate in Spain.
  • Evidence of sufficient financial resources (Bank statement etc..)
  • Favorable report from the Commercial Office where the visa is requested to confirm the business plan’s intentions
