Foreigners wishing to stay in Spain to study must obtain the D visa, which will include the initial authorization to stay in Spain.The D visa is usually issued for three months, but may also be issued for up to twelve months. After arriving in Spain you have to apply for a residence permit within the 3 months which is valid for a year. As Spain is a part of Schengen union so, holders of type D visas are permitted to circulate freely in Schengen countries (other than the issued country) for a period of not more than 90 days per half-year and only if the visa is valid.

The processing time for study visa may take from 6-12 weeks from the application day.

The general application process is :

  1. Find a course in an approved educational institution of Spain

  2. Contact the university and initiate your application process.

  3. Find out the requirements from the university to get the acceptance/admission letter.

  4. Get the acceptance/admission letter from the university in Spain

  5. Prepare your visa application and gather other required documents for it.

  6. Apply for a student visa and prepare to move to Spain

  • You need a passport/travel document valid for at least 6 months
  • You need sufficient funds(minimum of $700 per month) to cover your studies or a scholarship which confirms the payment of the tuition fees
  • You must to be accepted/enrolled in a course of an approved university/college in Spain
  • You should be of good character and health
  • You need a valid travel insurance covering the entire period of your studies in Spain

  • Copies of valid passport (including the bio page, past visas, etc)
  • Copies of enrollment letter from educational institute in Spain
  • Visa application form, completed and signed.
  • Two recent passport size photographs
  • Copy of proof of financial means/scholarship to cover the studies
  • Original and copies medical certificate
  • Copies of certificate of criminal record certificate
  • Copies of travel health insurance
