Foreigners wishing to stay in Spain to study must obtain the D visa, which will include the initial authorization to stay in Spain.The D visa is usually issued for three months, but may also be issued for up to twelve months. After arriving in Spain you have to apply for a residence permit within the 3 months which is valid for a year. As Spain is a part of Schengen union so, holders of type D visas are permitted to circulate freely in Schengen countries (other than the issued country) for a period of not more than 90 days per half-year and only if the visa is valid.
