Stamp 0 is a low level immigration status which is not intended to be reckon able for Long Term Residence or Citizenship. It is granted to persons who have been approved by INIS for a limited and specific stay in Ireland

Visiting academics

Visiting academics must be paid from outside the State and are here to work for less than nine months.

There are two steps to the process for obtaining Stamp 0 and registering as a non-EEA national:

Step 1: Apply for permission

You must apply in writing for permission, enclosing the required documentation to:

Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service

Department of Justice and Equality

13-14 Burgh Quay

Dublin 2

Step 2: Register

If you are granted permission through Step 1 then you must register at your local immigration office.

7 Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must sign an undertaking that they will abide by the restrictions imposed by the permission.
  • Applicant must not work in the State or establish or operate a business in the State.
  • Applicant must not permitted to engage in a profession in the State.
  • Applicant must not receive any State benefits.
  • Applicant must have private medical insurance to cover the duration of my stay.
  • Applicant must abide by the laws of the State.
  • The person or organisation sponsoring the applicant presence in the State is responsible for providing applicant with accommodation and my general up-keep.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Stamp "0" Residence for Visiting academics?

6 Document Required

  • Reason for the request of Stamp 0.
  • Full copy of your passport.
  • Sponsor letter from the person or organization sponsoring the applicant.
  • Evidence of private medical insurance with full cover in private hospitals.
  • Police clearance certificate.
  • Health declaration.
