If you are an athlete who is going to participate in top-level sports or a coach in top-level sports and have a concrete job offer from an employer in Norway, then you can apply for a 'skilled permit for athletes and coaches'.

Application process:

  1. Gather the documents as applicable for this purpose of residence.
  2. Choose your application form on the portal.
  3. Register and fill the form with the required information and choose the correct embassy that will receive your application (depending on your home country).
  4. Book your appointment online and visit one of the application centers in your home country, as guided by the portal.

What are eligibility requirements for the Skilled Permit for Athletes and Coaches?

8 Eligibility Requirements

  • You must either be an athlete who is going to participate in top-level sports or a coach in top-level sports.
  • You must have received confirmation from the relevant member association of the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports that you have the qualifications required, and at what level you are going to participate.
  • You must have received a concrete job offer from one specific employer in Norway.
  • The sport concerned must be a top-level sport.
  • The job must normally be full-time.
  • The pay and working conditions must not be poorer than is normal in Norway (min of NOK 242,966 per year,pre-tax).
  • You must know your Rights and obligations in Norway.
  • You must pay the application fee.

Which documents do I need to apply for the Skilled Permit for Athletes and Coaches?

12 Document Required

  • Passport and copy of all used pages in passport.
  • Signed cover letter from the Application portal.
  • 2 new/recent passport size photos with white background.
  • Document of accommodation in Norway.
  • The UDI's Offer of employment form, filled up.
  • Documentation which shows that the pay you have been offered meets the requirements.
  • Documentation of your education.
  • Documentation of your work experience, with CV (if applicable).
  • UDI's checklist, filled up and signed.
  • If you submit your application in a country other than your home country, then provide documentation that you have held a residence permit for the last six months in this country.
  • If you submit your application in Norway, then provide documentation which shows that you are in Norway legally.
  • A statement from the National Sports Federation of your sport or Norsk Jockey Club.
