The applicant must provide an innovative business plan and show their intent to invest in this plan. Agreeing to work in a business incubator upon arrival may also be required.

Foreign students studying in a Chinese university who have an innovative business plan related to the government-designated science and technology parks, incubators, and maker spaces in specific areas such as Changning and Yangpu in Shanghai.

Recent high-calibre foreign graduates from top universities in either China or abroad who have made outstanding achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship (they must have only graduated up to 2 years ago).

Most of the required documents are similar to that required of other types of visa applications.

Visa application form, completed and signed.

The following people are eligible to apply for the business startup visa:

Foreign students who have the willingness to innovate and start a business in Shanghai and graduated from a higher education institution in China;

Foreigners planning to invest in Shanghai or innovate in business.

Excellent overseas graduates from top Chinese universities or world-renowned universities who have been graduated for no more than two years but have made outstanding achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship in Shanghai.

Proof of Travel tickets or enough money to buy one.

Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements, credit card statements, bank drafts or travellers’ cheques.)

Copy of insurance certificate or approval letter from insurance company.

Documents that prove your usual place of permanent residence. Examples include:  letters sent to your home address or references from your employer.

Proof of citizenship (valid passport etc.).

Applicant must genuinely intend to meet visa requirements. 

Applicant must have a ticket to leave China or have enough money to buy one.

Applicant must have not previously entered China on a Working Holiday Visa.

 Applicant must have no dependent children or relatives travelling with him.

Applicant must have full medical insurance for the length of stay.

Applicant must be living in the country of Citizenship while applying for the Visa.

Original and copies of Notification of Work Permit issued by China State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

Proof of clean criminal record (if applicable).

Additional documents may be required on a case-by-case basis.

You need a valid actual passport with at least 6 months before expiry and at least one blank page left in it.

You need Notification of Work Permit issued by China State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

You may need to take a medical check when applying for the Temporary Residence Permit in China.
